It was reported by Variety early June that Brie Larson was in talks to play Carol Danvers, the first female superhero from Marvel to get a solo film. It’s stated that Marvel plans to get the actress cast early in case of a possibility of showing up in a film before her solo in 2019. The only announcements for the film so far had been the script writers, Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman (Inside Out).
Oscar-nominated actress Brie Larson (The Room) has officially been announced as Captain Marvel at SDCC!
Not much is known of the film other than the current release date – March 8, 2019. The reason Marvel wanted to cast her now as well as announce it is they plan to have her in another Marvel film before her solo. Out of the movies coming before her solo, I think Infinity War is the more likely. It would’ve been cool to see her in GotG Vol. 2 but James Gunn already confirmed no appearance.
