Marvel Announces Phase 3 Movies Slate

Marvel has finally released the next Phase of the MCU. Fans are certainly happy (and perhaps shocked) by the line up they shared:

Captain America: Civil War

“This is heartbreaking to me. I can’t believe something would come between us,” said Evans.

“Yeah well, you know. Get used to it. Sometimes you’ve just gotta pick a side,” said Downey.

Anthony and Joe Russo will return to director the 3rd installment of Captain America. They were hoping to officially announce CA3 at this year’s Comic Con but were waiting on some finalized details…which was probably the signing of Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man for the film. Now fans of the comics know Civil War pretty well and some love the idea that they’re going in this direction…and some hate it. Mainly because of how the story line will work out (particularly the number of heroes) – could this potentially be too crowded of a film? Only time will tell…here’s to hoping that those rumors of Hawkeye  joining the film are true!

Is this film where Steve Rogers meets his demise? Will Bucky return to pick up the shield?

Doctor Strange

“It takes a while to work on these movies before they’re ready to come to you in theaters,” said Feige. “Doctor Stephen Strange, brilliant neurosurgeon, bit of an arrogant fellow who gets in a car accident and ruins what he thinks are the tools of his trade: his hands.

“In the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of the supernatural, that involves everything from quantum mechanics to string theory. The idea of this film is to open up a whole new corner of the cinematic universe. We want to enter, through Strange, the world of parallel dimensions.”

Doctor Strange was the next movie in the phase to be officially announced. There was no official announcement, however, that Benedict Cumberbatch is indeed playing Doctor Strange…Again, Scott Derrickson will be directing the film.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2

James Gunn announced via video at the Marvel event the official release date for GotG2. I’m actually a bit shocked at how soon it’s coming. Not much else is known of the sequel, except that we can expect most of the movie’s cast members to return.

Thor: Ragnarok

“This is a very important movie for us in Phase 3,” said Marvel’s Kevin Feige. “We plan on taking Thor to another level. It picks up where we leave Thor in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ and impacts everything that comes after.”

Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston will return for Ragnarok. What do you think will happen? Something pretty big as we can all assume…

Black Panther

“Here he is …” Feige says, presenting a title for — Black Panther. “We have already started seeding this in the previous films,” Feige said. “One of the things I already showed you today is an Easter Egg leading into Black Panther.” (Probably the reveal of Andy Serkis, in the Avengers AoU teaser, who looks a lot like the Black Panther villain Klaw). “It’s about how this isolationist country of Wakanda meets the world,” Feige says.

Chadwick Boseman has officially been announced to play Black Panther.

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1

Marvel released some shocking news that the 3rd Avengers film will actually be in 2 parts.

“We’ve always had a plan since Nick Fury broke into Tony Stark’s house and told him he’s part of a bigger universe,” recalled Feige. “‘Avengers: Infinity War Part 1’ is the beginning of the culmination of everything that has come before.”

We are already hearing that the roster for the current Avengers will change after the second movie. We know that Josh Brolin is Thanos. Who do you want to see in this Infinity War?

Captain Marvel

“This Captain Marvel’s name is Carol Danvers,” said Feige. “This film has been in the works almost as long as Doctor Strange or Guardians of the Galaxy before it came out, and one of the key things was figuring out what we wanted to do with it. Her adventures are very earthbound, but her powers are based in the cosmic realm.”

We are finally getting a female superhero led movie from Marvel! Although I’m sure fans are disappointed there’s no Black Widow movie announced…

“It seemed time to open the floodgates a little bit wider,” Feige says.

No word on who will be a part of the Inhumans movie but Vin Diesel has teased an on-screen role in it…

Avengers: Infinity War Part 2

What do you think will happen in this possible final installment of the Avengers?

Overall, I’m excited to see all these movies. We are truly in a Golden Age thanks to DC’s and Marvel’s line up. I’m not going to be one of those fans who says “Marvels wiping their *** all over DC” or “Oh look, now Marvel is copying DC” and all that jazz. It’s all childish. I think we should all be glad we’re getting THIS MANY superhero movies from such talented people. Both sides have their flaws and pros, no one is better than the other! Everyone has their own opinion of which “side” they like more, but honestly, I love both. It’s fun to see how each “side” brings about their heroes. I like seeing the more comedic/lighter side and the more darker/grounded side. They’re both amazing to watch.

That’s it for Phase 3! Let me know which one you’re looking forward to most!
